Definition of Affordance

 

M206 defines affordance as follows (the relevant chapter is marked in brackets):

(Ch. 5) "The features of an object that make it self-apparent how the object should be used."
(Ch. 19) "Affordance is where it is intuitive how to operate an interface control."
(Ch. 40) "Given the combination of a thing and a person with given propensities and knowledge, the affordance of the thing is what it invites, allows, seems to permit, or affords the person to do."
